Mission Work

Our church mission is "Reaching Out with God's Light and Love".
One percent (1%) of the monies received each week is sent to our Presbytery to support their mission programs.  Four percent (4%) is designated to our mission fund. The Mission committee meets monthly to distribute the money.  Some of the programs we support are SEA, Pro-Papa, Smile Train, Mound Ridge, Backpacks, Peacemaking Offering, Christmas Joy Offering, Pentecost Offering, One Great Hour of Sharing, Christmas Gifts for CASA and our home bound, School Supplies, and Sullivan Senior Center.
Friends in Fellowship support the Meramec Mission, Presbyterian Children's Home, SEA, and Children's Christmas gifts.  Our own Food Pantry and Emergency Funds program is supported by the donations of the congregation.

The First Presbyterian Church at 285 E. Springfield, Sullivan, MO hosted a “Paint for a Cause” event on Saturday afternoon, June 17th.  This event was a fundraiser for The Covering House in St. Louis.  The artist who taught the attendees is Sherri White, an art teacher from Owensville, MO.  She had a painting completed the attendees worked from to paint their own interpretation.  Everyone enjoyed the afternoon event which also included refreshments, a silent auction, two raffles and door prizes.

The Covering House is an organization in St. Louis whose mission is to “Provide refuge and restoration, using the least restrictive environment, for sexually exploited and trafficked children and teens, providing safety, dignity, and freedom, utilizing top level staffing and oversight.”  The programs provide a unique opportunity for girls who have faced the trauma of sexual exploitation or trafficking to receive services designed solely for their needs.  This program moves girls towards restoration by helping them regain some of their childhood while becoming healthy women.  The Covering House has community partnerships with Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, St. Louis Cardinals’ Wives, Mercy Hospital and Precision Dentistry.  This organization is the only one of its kind in the State of Missouri.

The afternoon event raised over $2,000 and 100% of the donations went directly to The Covering House.   Kathi Kraus from First Presbyterian Church presented a check to Mandy from The Covering House.  If you would like more information regarding The Covering House, please contact them by calling 314-962-3450 or access their website at info@thecoveringhouse.org or www.thecoveringhouse.org   You may also donate at www.thecoveringhouse.org/donate

The First Presbyterian Church was very pleased to be able to raise funds for such a worthwhile cause and one that has our world in its grip.  The church would like to thank those individuals who donated items for the auction and raffle along with the following businesses:  Meramec Tire Center; ZX gas station; Hill Chiropractic; The Hoot Owl; and Wilcox Jewelers.  Your donations helped make this event successful .
